"My favorite place to stay in Mendocino is the Stanford Inn. High on a hill, surrounded by lush flowering gardens and acres of rolling land on the banks of the Big River, the Stanford Inn is Mendocino's only proper resort."

PETS WELCOMED!

This phrase means a great deal: All significant family members can share the experience of the Stanford Inn. We have always traveled with our dogs, Murphy and Gypsy, and welcome your friends here.

Over the years we have had a variety of non human visitors: dogs and cats, of course, but also iguanas, parrots, Vietnamese pot belly pigs, and a tortoise. Pets stay for a modest charge.

If yours is a dog, you'll find a welcoming treat, stainless steel food and water dishes, "dog sheets" to protect the furniture so that your friend can join you, and Intelligent Products pick-up bags and more.

A FEW BASIC RULES AND NOTES OF IMPORTANCE

Our rules are simple. Please do not leave your pet unattended in your room without letting us know in case he or she is uncomfortable in new surroundings. We have had doors chewed and badly scratched.

Guests have taken care of damage, but the issue is that their pets were unhappy. We find that dogs are most happy accompanying their owners when exploring the area. Our weather is cool and with windows left open, no harm should come to them if you leave them in your car when your are off the property.

We ask that guests pick up after their dogs and provide stations with bags and trash receptacles throughout the property.

By the way, well behaved dogs are welcome in our lobby but not our dining room. If you would like breakfast or dinner to be served in the lobby, we are happy to accommodate you.

Good etiquette assures that all guests will have an enjoyable stay. If you need anything special from veterinary services to pet sitters, and special foods, just ask and we will happily accommodate.

Cats are not great travelers, however some are accustomed to traveling and are very comfortable in their traveling carriers. One of our guests brings two Mexican hairless cats in wheeled carriers allowing them to accompany them but their white German shepherd as well.

Please remember to keep your pets on a leash. Gypsy and Murphy are off leash to greet guest dogs and their friends. If Murphy is not otherwise engaged, she will help show you to your room.

All our domestic animals have little choice about where they are and how we treat them. We know this and, here, animals come first.

We all care about their health and well being and when you are exploring the inn you'll find our horses, Scooter, Badger, Storm, and Cardy, who we rescued when she was 30 in 2003; one of our cats, "Stinky Butt," who is a Manx and incontinent and must stay outside due to her condition.

You might find a seagull, pigeon on other animal being rehabilitated.

The inn and its ten acres are home to our many cats, a black swan, a Toulouse goose, many ducks, two quarter horses and pinto, and ten llamas. We also are home to many raccoons, deer, skunks, opossums, Stellar jays, ravens and a variety of song birds.
